Hunter x Hunter 27 – AWWW YYYEEAAHHH!

SEE THAT? THAT’S KURORO IN  THE NEW OP. SHIT’S ABOUT TO GET REAL.

NEW OP, NEW ED, NEW ARC.

Hunter x Hunter has quietly slipped past the blogger’s radar as far as I’m concerned. Which is a damn shame because it’s still awesome. You’d think a show like this would inevitably look weaker when viewed beside shows like Sakamichi no Apollon, Uchuu Kyoudai and Lupin the III but no it does not because none of those shows have happy music playing when someone’s face gets smashed in.

Truly an inspirational Sunday morning cartoon for children.

Zushi makes a wonderful addition to the cast because like Gon and Killua, he’s around their age and is already thrust into the violent world of Heaven’s Arena. Anyway Guardian Enzo sums it up better than I can. I’m just too hyped up to form a coherent entry, in which I wanted to discuss how messed up it is to watch children fight and bet on them. Sometimes, if you set aside the thought that this is supposed to a shounen manga– you have to wonder  what kind of world Togashi has created for kids like Gon, Killua and now– Zushi. With the exception of Gon’s childhood in Whale Island, I don’t think there’s ever been a real nurturing environment for anyone in this show.

So it’s fascinating to see three children, two of which eventually are pit against one another– hang out and still act like their age.

On the concept of nen, Killua was obviously the stronger one physically, but Zushi shows a technique similar to Illumi’s that unsettles Killua. Unlike most fighting shows, nen is introduced as something that induces fear. Note both Gon and Killua truly felt some semblance of fear in the presence of a nen user (Hisoka and Illumi). The power itself isn’t built up as a magical, wonderful thing. It’s genuinely frightening.

This season has been amazing so far, and HxH isn’t one to fall behind.

…The aesthetic of this show is starting to shine as well. DEM COLORS AND TEXTURES.

  1. I like new OP and ED. It’s so cool. Am I the only one that like Machi with purple hair (1999 version)? Well… pink is not bad either (manga)

  2. Looking good there HydeKuroro~ (hehe, it always amazes me how different he looks with his hair up/down). Let’s hope they choose to animate the Hisoka/Castro battle properly this time ’round. The Hisoka/Gon one is going to be hard to top though.

I’d like to see a complete match between Hisoka and Castro too. The 99 series skipped some things which was understandable but still disappointing. The Hisoka vs. Gon fight is going to be hard to beat, the shots and cuts in that fight were stellar.

How did I never piece this together until the show blatantly pointed it out this episode. Me = dumb.

Pshh that’s not true. I just picked up on it because nen inducing fear was a major theme in the later parts of the manga.

  4. But Aiai is a great city to grow up in! (did they animate it in the original?)

AND SHOW’S ABOUT TO GET AWESOME
