Danshinichijyo Pre-Air (1-3) : It’s No Kimi to Boku All Right.

People might think Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (better known as Daily Lives of Highschool Boys) ss a ‘healing slice of life’ anime about boys being nice to each other and standing in the wind under the cherry blossoms.

No.

No, it’s not. It’s a gag anime about highschool boys being stupid and weird. It also pokes fun at a few popular anime tropes along the way. The three episodes that have been released feature the main characters in painfully awkward and embarrassing situations which are enough to earn a giggle or two. At times, the series seems like it enjoys being mean spirited and self depreciating. Considering this is being directed by Shinji Takamatsu, that’s not a big surprise. I find myself drawn to that kind of meanness and playful teasing.

Dashinichijyo is aware of the fact that plenty of otakus won’t be touching this series and fujoshis are likely to be disappointed. As the ending song goes: “This anime insists ob making fools of us.” And it does a damn great job at it too. Having read bits and pieces of the raw manga, the series will be stepping into weirder territory as more characters are introduced and this series should be fully capable of pulling that off.

The series officially starts airing next year, on January 9 as part of the Winter 2012 lineup. Yeah, I’m picking this up. Spending 6 minutes a week on this series sounds fair enough.

Lol, no, Kimi to Boku already has that on lockdown. I’d be mad if it was a copy/paste situation, like what the majority of “moe girls” shows are these days.

  2. Sounds fun. I thought it would be dull when I first heard of it.
